BRIDGWATER UNITED WOMEN FOOTBALL CLUB

PREVIEW | Bridgwater Utd Women v Abingdon Utd Women

Sep 20, 2026 | 0 comments

This afternoon, Bridgwater United Women return to The Ethan Berry Pavilion, forย FA Womenโ€™s National League action as we welcome Abingdon United Women.

After a busy opening to the 2026/27 campaign, today marks another important test for Bridgwater, as we look to continue building on the progress made by the club.

Abingdon arrive in Somerset having already played four times in the league this season. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory over MAP, but were then defeated to a strong Moneyfields team 5-1. They went on to get 3 points at home to Keynsham, before further responding in impressive fashion last weekend, travelling to Maidenhead United and recording a 5-2 victory.

There is recent history between the two sides. Bridgwater recorded a 3-1 home victory over Abingdon when the teams last met in March, while the away fixture at The Northcourt earlier in the 2025/26 campaign ended in a 2-1 victory for the Robins, with Keeley Banfield getting the winner.

But previous results count for little this afternoon.

Both sides will be looking to make their mark on what promises to be another competitive FA WNL fixture, with the league continuing to provide a high level of competition week after week. Todayโ€™s fixture is one of six matches taking place across the division.

๐—” ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜† of Milestones

There is an extra reason to make your way to The Ethan Berry Pavilion today.

Head Coach, Steve Perkins is set to take charge of the team for his 50th League game, whilst Captain, Manfy Sharpe, is also set to make her 50th appearance.

Ellie-Mae Bell (sponsored by Somerset Healthcare Ltd – of WPA Healthcare) is set to make herย 100th appearance for Bridgwater United Women, reaching a fantastic milestone in the colours of the Robins.

Ones to watch

Abingdon’s Molly Lygo is a key player that Bridgwater will need to keep quiet. Having played every minute of every league game, Lygo has notched two league goals, and will be looking to beat their previous record last season of 14 goals.

Their memory lives long

It’s been three years since the passing of Maddy Cusack.ย We know Maddyโ€™s memory continues to hold a special place within our football community.

This Sunday also marks one year since the passing of Matt Beard,ย a key figure in the growth of the womenโ€™s game in England. A

nd, on Matchday we stand with our friends at Abingdon United Football Club, after the sad tragic passing of Abingdon player, Jack Badger, two years ago.

There will be a minutes silence ahead of kick off this weekend.
